Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid period, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional victory, took control to create a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
