Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party
Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
